Homemade Guacamole

How to become everybody’s best friend on game day or taco Tuesday. Step 1: Bring guac. Step 2: Refer to step 1. But seriously. This guacamole recipe is one of my go-to snacks for when we’re getting together with friends. Fresh homemade guacamole is easy peasy, and it’s always a fan favorite. The addition of cumin makes a big difference in depth of flavor, and plenty of cilantro and lime brighten things up.

Now, who’s bringing the margaritas?

Makes about 3 cups

Ingredients
5 ripe avocados
Juice from 2 1/2 limes
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 cup diced onion
1/2 cup diced tomato, preferably cherry tomatoes
1/2 cup chopped cilantro

Note: The chances that you pick out all perfectly ripe avocados are slim. Always buy an extra.

Directions
1. Scoop avocado into a large bowl. Add lime juice and seasonings.
2. Using an immersion blender, a fork, or a potato masher, mash the avocados until they reach the desired consistency.
3. Stir in onion, tomatoes, and cilantro.
4. Taste and adjust salt and pepper, if desired.
5. Refrigerate for about an hour before serving.
