Brown Sugar Pecan Simple Syrup

Spoon above jar of simple syrup with pecans and brown sugar and bourbon in background

Brown Sugar Pecan Simple Syrup. Need I say more? Yeah, I guess I should. It doesn’t get much more simple (no pun intended) or tasty than this. It’s equal parts brown sugar, water, and pecans. You just throw them in a pot, reduce on the stove, and then let it sit. That’s it!

My sister, who despises maple syrup, tried it and immediately said, “Shut up! I would put this on French toast.” Flavored simple syrup is super versatile. This pecan simple syrup is especially so. You could pour it on French toast or pancakes, mix it into cocktails (I’ve been experimenting with Bulleit bourbon), use it to sweeten your coffee, or spoon it over ice cream. Don’t mind me as I drool all over my computer.

Note: The syrup will reduce while it cooks. However, if you want a thicker syrup, reduce it down further by letting it simmer longer.

Makes about 2 cups

2. Turn heat down to medium-low. Cook 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Remove from stove and cover. Let sit 30 minutes.
4. Stir and strain simple syrup into a glass jar. Store in refrigerator until ready to use.
